TEN PIN

BOWLS NIGHT

Please make sure you mark the Apologies and Guests list above so we know how many to book for.

Club Notices

1     Next Tuesday we are privileged to have DG Bruce visiting us so President Sue would like you all to attend and hear how this year is going to be so stimulating and interesting.
You will get out of it what you put into it.
(An old but very true comment.)

2       Ten pin bowls evening on the 25th July so please ensure you note the "Apology and Guests' list so that we can ensure that we have the numbers correct. If you or your guest(s) will not be bowling there is no need to note on the A&P list.

3        Graham gave a 'rundown' on the Green Legacy Hiroshima project. He and Sue are still to have a meeting with Mayor Dave to get the DCC on board. As we only require their goodwill and moral support all should go well.

4        The E-Club (Steve and Chris's baby) won the Membership Development Cup at Conference for the biggest percentage increase in member numbers. Congrats guys.

What's New
We are very pleased to announce that Grant B has a special friend and he said that he would bring her to the next appropriate meeting so we could meet her.
He also explained that he had spent some time in the ED as he had a very sore back from digging fence post holes, poor Grant!!
We all hope it doesn't get better soon Grant.

Thought 4 the Week
"You never really know a man until you understand things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
Harper Lee, To kill a Mockingbird.
Yes you guessed it  - Grant Batchelor

And no, Ah-Lek was not sleeping - he was just resting his eye lids.

Our Club Night

President Sue divided us up, in the nicest possible way (ie into our committees) and set us to work after restating RI President's theme for the year, MAKING  A DIFFERENCE. We were to watch a short video of RI Pres 'stating his case' but unfortunately we only got the sound. However the message was clear and concise.
"We are a team and united in our purpose."
You can see two of the committee reports below. More are to follow.  If you were not able to attend the meeting please do give your director a call to have your say.

How can we better promote our club through the media? What materials might you need?
  • Use Brenda Harwood at the Star (Chief reporter) as our media contact.
  • Link our Facebook page to our club website so that all Facebook posts show as stories on the website. This way the website will be fresh and stay current.
  • When we do events, put them on Facebook so people can see what is coming up, where and when, etc.
  • Bulletin photos to also go onto the FB Page
  • Bring physical copies for the meeting when something big is coming up so that the members have something to take home
  • If a member has a home and work email, both to be loaded into the bulletin mail system so that partners also get to see the bulletin and read what we are up to.
  • Club runner training to be done by Bob Smith 2 to 3 times over this Rotary year
What plans do you have for the PR team?
  • Graham doing the Club bulletin
  • Sandy to advise/promote the events she organises for the club
  • Derek to do Facebook loading etc.
  • Dave to supervise the above J
Discuss any up and coming PR plans. Who will be doing what?
  • To discuss further at our next committee meeting

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ROTARY VOLUNTEERS

Rotarians undertaking volunteer service overseas should undertake an assessment of the activity and the country prior to departure to mitigate the risk to person and property.

Volunteers should register travel plans with www.safetravel.govt.nz in advance of leaving New Zealand.

Volunteer Insurance is available from RNZWCS. Rotarians are still travelling overseas having taken leisure cover from a travel agent or other source which most often excludes all cover arising out of paid or volunteer work. Further detail to be found at http://www.rnzwcs.org/resources/ Inquiries to info@rnzwcs.org

Whilst Rotary Clubs overseas would not knowingly expose volunteers to hazards, nevertheless there are many instances recorded where a volunteer has been ill prepared to avoid such.

Often the activity is in a remote area where in the event of an emergency, there is little or no medical facilities available and transportation to the nearest medical centre may not be available for a lengthy period.

In addition, there are external risks (robbery, assault, hazardous poorly lit accommodation, lack of hygiene and sanitation, food poisoning, poorly maintained vehicles and driving standards etc) all requiring vigilance in terms of personal security and health.

Volunteers being accompanied by acquaintances, family or friends is discouraged, due to the risk of them being seriously assaulted or suffering from an occurrence whilst being alone whilst the volunteer is on site.

Volunteers should avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with Youth and Vulnerable Persons wherever possible.

http://www.rnzwcs.org/resources/ contains valuable information under the Code of Conduct heading which backgrounds the various vulnerabilities volunteers may be exposed to.

Volunteers being endorsed or supported by a New Zealand Rotary Club or Rotary Club Trust may have a duty

of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of the volunteer whilst at work.
