Conference 2019

Ah-Lek gave a run-down on our conference organisation noting that we had Toni Marr' (event Organiser) 'on board' to keep us in line and on programme. We have one guest speaker so far and are hoping to have acceptances from some others soon.

There was a competition at conference.
Keith W won it - not because he entered BUT because Eleanor entered for him.  Well done for your enthusiasm for entering him 12 times Eleanor..
Your poem must be repoduced here next bulletin.

While Rotarians can serve in countless ways, Rotary has focused its efforts in six areas, which reflect some of the most critical and widespread humanitarian needs:
  • Peace and conflict prevention/resolution.
  • Disease prevention and treatment.
  • Water and sanitation.
  • Maternal and child health.
  • Basic education and literacy.

CONFERENCE 2018 ~ BRUCE
And for those that 'get a kick' out of seeing Matt on AM TV here he is - you will just have to get your magnifying glass out.
(and his mum - a Rotarian - is in the foreground with her back to you)
Matt McLean was the MC for the evening and did it very well.
Please note they both have our club wings on.
Fot those with good eyesight you will note there were babies and young ones present. No great deal. everyone enjoyed themselves.
There will be more, many more.
 What's New x 2
Robyn (still on the Murray Houseboat
What a description of travel on the Murray. Robyn spent 'quite a few days' on a houseboat sailing (and stopping) on the Murray. Visiting many wine regions - for purely therapeutic reasons of course. She and her 8 fellow farmer travellors spent 4n night on the Murray, 2 night in Adelade and 1 in Christchurch. A lot of eating and DRINKING. The South Australian hospiality was wonderful.
Patricia displaying one of her vast array of talents.
Patricia and her painting
Patricia's beloved Jack Russell died about two weeks ago which has sent her to her studio to seek some peace. She displayed one of her escapes.  What a wonderful painting. The story behind the flower depicted is that it was the only flower not to bow its head as Jusus walked pass on his way to the cross and as penance it was to hang its head forevermore.
COMPETITION
I will give a bottle of wine to the first one present last week who can give the BE the botanical name of the flower.
Patricia a you are disqualified from entry.

Rotaractors at the 2018 Rotaractors Conference
President Sue has asked on behalf of Rotaract;

Rotaract has two great projects we are running over the next two weeks and were hoping to get some Rotary support on!

The first is a bake sale (on Uni campus) Friday 18th May, with proceeds going to Chatbus.  We have Rotaract members donating baking but were wondering if each club could find 1 or 2 people in your club who might do some extra baking for us (or are willing to buy some good baking).

The second project is in connection with the Retract Club of Rarotonga, who have reached out asking if we could collect stationery to send to Rarotonga which they can then distribute between 9 impoverished schools.  We are looking for anything school stationery related - pencils to back pack, so if any Rotary members have any spare we would love to know and I can collect.
