Last week's speaker
Robyn came with the support of her husband, Grant, and one of her sons, Tim.
As she explained their attendance was very largely attributable to the fact that is was Grant's turn to cook dinner so this was the easier option.
Robyn was the eldest of three in a police family and consequently moved around a bit as her father was promoted. As they moved around she can remember the 'smell of (old) socks' as they passed the Noreswear factory. The memory of wearing shoes to and from school and not wearing them at school stays with her. Also hangi were also the 'order of the day' rather than the normal school BBQ fundraiser.
When her dad became head of CIB in Dunedin she attended OGHS. A move to Chch for her family was just to much to take so she refused to go and stayed with her aunt and uncle in Dunedin.
Robyn's first time away from the 'home environment' was her spell in Knox College. Medical School and the 'pull' of Leith Street and a Ford Escort set her up for a life of !!!!!! ????~
Gaining the necessrary exams and the requirement for all 3rd year students was that they had to do a 1/3rd of their time as a regisrar meant that she had to work very hard to achieve the necessary results. Robyn 'did time' on the boat servicing the Solomon Islands. She felt that she was useless on the boat - but one good thing from this service was that she got her diving certificate.
Robyn has done a lot of travelling including Africa - Rwanda and Tanzania and also Egypt as well as the Kepler where they held a 'Black Tie' dinner complete with a Secret Santa.
Work at the Mercy Hospital is soooo much more pleasant than at the Public Hospital. Plus Mercy closes down basically over Christmas so a holiday is possible.
