One from Sam's Bahrain Rotary Club

After 10 years old, wife starts to think their kid looks strange & decides to do a DNA test.
She finds out that the kid is actually from completely different parents.
WIFE: Honey, I have something very serious to tell you
HUSBAND: What’s up?
WIFE: According to DNA test results, this is not our kid
HUSBAND: Well you don’t remember, do you??
When we were leaving the hospital, we noticed that our baby had pooped, then you told me "Please go change the baby, I’ll wait for you here."  So I went inside, got a clean baby and left the dirty one there!!

Club Notices

1    President Sue welcomed two visitors, Hilary Bisset and Jean Lai to the meeting. Hilary is a teacher and Jean traveled on the trip to India with Rajesh and Andrew.  it was also great to see Sam H back for what is likely to be his last attendance for some time as he heads back to Bahrain. Travel safe Sam.

2    Two weeks ago we missed a very important occasion - Our Dave H's 80th birthday. Well we don't get many chances to test our vocal cords so this opportunity was not wasted. Many happy returns David.

3    We will be having a 35 tree planting on Saturday the 2nd of September at the Sinclair Wetlands. This project meets one of the aims of our RI President Ian Riseley- More information later.  We are to meet at the Waihola pub for lunch at 11.30 and then move onto the Wetlands. Must be there by 1.30 as we are to have our picture taken with the other Rotary Clubs. Bring a shovel and gumboots. The Club has paid for 35 trees so bring your friends for an outing and planting.

4    Bras Bras Bras. If anybody wants to release their's or their partner's bras from just hanging around, get them to Sue before the weekend as that is when the Sue's Minister is off over to Vanuatu.

5    Ah-Lek requested help at 12 noon on the 10th September at the Taieri Bowling Club where the Mosgiel Rotary Club are having their Book Sale.Big car boots. trailers and trucks are needed to shift the book to our storage. Children's books will be going to Sue's garage for sorting before being distributed to worthy cause as well as the Troppodoc Library in Vanuatu.

6     Ah-Lek also mentioned the Alzheimers Otago collection which is on Saturday the 9th September at Countdown and or Pak-in-Save. Details will be confirmed later. We generally need about 8 willing bodies for these collections so keep the Saturday free if possible.

7      Presi Sue reminded us all that the Duty Free Auction is a wonderful way to have some fun and raise funds for our Shelter Box purchase.

Our speaker for the 5th September
Patricia Payne
Born and educated in Dunedin Patricia went to London to further her singing studies with internationally recognised teachers. In her debut as an opera singer at London's Covent Garden, one London review described her as 'tall and majestic displaying an enormous voice, opulent in tone'. Her 'enormous' voice is a rich mezzo-contralto of unusual strength and quality.
Art and cooking add to this illustrious career.
The years spent in Europe provided a perfect opportunity for Patricia to study the art and medieval manuscripts which fascinated her. Through a friendship with the late John Harthan, Librarian of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and an authority on illuminated manuscripts, this interest ultimately laid the foundations for her artistic career.

Last Week's Speaker
Our
Sam Mulholland
Sandy introduced Sam with the revelation that her son knew Sam's son very well as they had cycled together. We learn about other members all the time. We think we know them BUT!

Sam works from his base in Bahrain and travels for work over most of the Middle East. One of the hardest things to accept, in the ME,was that getting paid was always a bit of a problem BUT as the profits from oil have dropped off so has the ability of the corporates to pay their bills. Many workers who were immigrants and sent money back home just did not get paid.
If you go to the bank for an overdraft they will lend but only to the value of what you hold your account.
Sam has tried to allow for this by demanding a 50% deposit before he starts a job.
He outlined some of the jobs he has and is working on, Generally setting up large computer plant rooms for major companies. Because of the large scale of the equipment very large aircon plants are required to keep the temperature down to an acceptable level.
Sam attended a FINTEC conference that discussed such things as; merging Payment Rails, Cashless World, New Market Platforms and RegTechs, Alternative Finance, InsurTechs, Digital Banks and Blockchain & Bitcoins. Oh dear!!
The banking sector should be worried as the tenor of these conferences is to 'do away' with banks as we know them.
Sam is leaving ext Monday to  go to Jeddah where he has a job for the Islamic Development Bank. (They have massive assess)
Jeddah, is a Saudi Arabian port city on the Red Sea and is a modern commercial hub and gateway for pilgrimages to the Islamic holy cities Mecca and Medina.
Our suave Mr Mulholland

Sergeant's Session
Oh dear!!!! Sandy J made us all confess to a misdemeanour.
It certainly bore fruit - well cash.
Thought 4 the week
"Words have even more power when you believe in them. What you say has the potential to change your attitude and your whole thinking."

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in addition, to encourage and foster:

First:         The development of acquaintance as an                    opportunity or service.

Second:     High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

Third:        The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life.

Fourth:      The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace, through a world fellowship of business and professional men and women united in the ideal of service.
