Welcome to the Rotary Club of Dunedin Central!

At the Rotary Club of Dunedin Central, we are a vibrant and dedicated group of individuals united by a common goal - making a positive impact on our community and beyond. Founded on the principles of service, fellowship, and ethical leadership, our club has been a driving force for positive change in Dunedin and the surrounding areas.

Our club is part of the esteemed global network of Rotary International, which enables us to collaborate with like-minded individuals and organisations worldwide. Through our strong local presence and international connections, we strive to address critical issues and promote goodwill, peace, and understanding across borders.

Our club is committed to the "7 Areas of Focus" set forth by Rotary International. These areas guide our efforts and ensure that we target the most pressing needs in our community and beyond. Our focus areas are:

  1. Promoting Peace: We support projects and initiatives that foster peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and understanding among diverse communities.

  2. Fighting Disease: We are actively involved in efforts to combat diseases like polio, malaria, and other health challenges, working to improve healthcare access and reduce suffering.

  3. Providing Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: We work to ensure access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities for communities in need, enhancing health and quality of life.

  4. Supporting Education: We believe in the power of education and invest in projects that provide access to quality education, vocational training, and literacy programs for individuals of all ages.

  5. Saving Mothers and Children: We strive to improve maternal and child health, supporting programs that ensure safe pregnancies, childbirth, and healthcare for mothers and children.

  6. Promoting Economic Development: We empower individuals and communities by supporting sustainable economic development projects that create opportunities for growth and prosperity.

  7. Protecting the Environment: We are committed to environmental conservation and sustainability, engaging in projects that address climate change, protect natural resources, and promote eco-friendly practices.

So what do we do?

Our primary focus is to engage in projects and initiatives that benefit the community and promote goodwill and understanding. Some key activities and initiatives our club undertakes are:

  1. Service Projects: We organise and execute a wide range of service projects to address various community needs. These projects can include environmental conservation efforts, providing clean water and sanitation, supporting education and literacy, promoting healthcare, organising food drives, and more.

  2. Fundraising: We conduct fundraising events to secure resources for our service projects and charitable activities. The funds raised are used to support local initiatives and contribute to international projects through Rotary International.

  3. Scholarships and Youth Programs: We help facilitate scholarships to deserving students, enabling them to pursue higher education and vocational training. Additionally, we help with youth leadership programs, such as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), to foster leadership skills and community engagement in young individuals.

  4. International Projects: We participate in global initiatives through Rotary International, contributing to projects aimed at eradicating diseases like polio, supporting disaster relief efforts, and promoting peace and conflict resolution.

  5. Networking and Fellowship: We provide a platform for networking and building meaningful relationships among members. These connections often extend beyond the local club and can lead to business opportunities and personal friendships.

  6. Ethics and Professional Development: We emphasise ethical behaviour in both personal and professional settings. Members are encouraged to uphold the "Four-Way Test," a set of ethical guidelines that serve as a moral compass for their actions.

  7. Community Events and Engagement: We actively participate in community events and collaborate with other organizations to strengthen ties and work towards shared goals.

  8. International Exchange Programs: We help facilitate cultural exchange programs that allow members to travel abroad and experience different cultures, fostering global understanding and cooperation.

  9. Public Awareness and Advocacy: We engage in public awareness campaigns to highlight important social issues and advocate for positive change in their communities.

Through our various service projects, fundraising efforts, and community engagement, we make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. But it's not all about work; our club fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere of fellowship, where members build lasting friendships and create memories that extend beyond the realm of service.

We invite you to join us in our mission to make a meaningful impact in our community and around the world. Together, we can create positive change, inspire hope, and build a brighter future for generations to come.
