Club Notices

  • Pieter van de K is still very sore with his fractured tail bone. He did inform the BE that he had Sonia out cutting the lawn so this must count as some compensation Pieter.
  • Please order your tickets for the Rotary movie night (Murder on the Orient Express’) with out delay. It is on the 8th November for End Polio Now. Tickets are $20 for members. Friends, guests and family are all welcome! Derek has sent you all the link to make up for the BE's lack of IT knowledge.  See note below for more details.
  • Unfortunately nobody has come forward to host the Cilean exchange student so unless aanother club can 'come to the party' this student will not be coming to Dunedin.
  • Pres Sue distrubuted the remaining dictionaries to the Lanuage Laboritory. See picture below.
  • Remember to get/acquire your auction items for the 21st Auction night. This night goes a long way to our club meeting its Foundation commitments.        Andrew M mentioned that he had 'acquired' some items including a Giro flight and a flight in a RE12 wth an instructor on board which will probably include some aeorbatics.
  • President Sue will email the necessary links for the Auction night etc as BE has not mastered this yet.

Speaker
Peter Chin
Sister City Relationship Shanghai
Peter served two terms as our mayor and in that time saw the completion or commencement of many projects such as the Chinese Garden and the Stadium. Regardless what you my personally think about these projects they are a wonderful contribution to Dunedin.
an ex member of parliament  wrote; "Just had Dinner with ex Dunedin Mayor and Member of the Constitutional Advisory Panel, Peter Chin. Absolutely brilliant - a wonderful human being - exceptionally bright and passionate about his city, country, heritage and especially the role that students and young people have to play in shaping our future. An inspirational evening!

A man with a wealth of experience.  This evening will be of interest to all I am sure.

POLIO PLUS RAFFLE
Well the tally of funds raised for Polio Plus from the raffle is $1,057.50 AND with Bill's contribution this makes our clubs contribution $3,172.50. Great stuff.

Gary Williams
Past District Governor

Gary explained that the Youth Programmes covered a wide variety of local, national and international activities from student exchanges such as that between Australia and NZ, RYE, RYPENS, RYLA, Rotoract, Interact, CureKids and many more run by or initiated by Rotary.
The RYE programme gives students a wonderful one year opportunity to experience life in another country hosted by three or four Rotarian families overseas.  In the past we have exchanged with countries where students would have the least challenges 'fitting' in such as the UK, USA, South Africa etc where language was not a problem However we are now looking at other countries such as Taiwan, Chile, Brazil, France, Germany, Switzerland Sweden and Austria.
Our out-going student do face an additional problem that streaches thier resolve in that they arrive iin the middle of the host counties school year.
RYE is a once in a lifetime opportunity for uour students to experience oan other culture and 3 or 4 host families They learn to intergrate into these families and cultures and come back 'worldly wise'.
