Last Week's Guest Speakers

Last week we had Haley and Alex from Otago Girls present two excellent presentations for the speech competition. Alex (pictured on the left) gave the first speech which was an interesting and amusing discussion on the topic of the Millennials VS Baby Boomers. Haley gave the second speech which was about womens rights, Trump and the abortion debate.

After the deliberation of the judges Graham, Ah-Lek and Sandy, Alex edged out in front as the winner.

Jeremy Scott

While the competition was being judged we had another presentation from Jeremy Scott who has ridden his bike from London back to New Zealand as a personal goal but also for the Heat Foundation Charity.

Jeremy was born with a hole in his heart for which he had surgery at the age of 4. Since then nothing has been able to stop him and he has been determined to lead as active a life as possible. Jeremy had an architectural job in London for which he travelled widely. This however wasn't enough of a challenge and after reading an article on biking he decided to bike across the world. Jeremy was a novice rider and for the first ride didn't even make it to the end of his road without crashing! He did get back in the saddle and later managed to get to Amsterdam, through Europe, Iran, China, Japan, Vietnam and back to New Zealand. The presentation was fascinating and Jeremy was also plugging his self funded and published book 'The Long Road from a Broken Heart' for which 10% of the profit goes to the Heart Foundation.

Induction

In the action packed meeting last week we also had the induction of new member Randall Trainor.
